To show three states of being and explore the considerations of semantics, syntax, and pragmatics, I chose the theme of needs: physical, psychological, and emotional. These translated into sleep, play, and love, expressed by my subject and best friend, Bobby. After he was photographed in each of these states, the images were traced over to experiment with various mark-making and simplification techniques.
